12 Tips for Attending your First Travel Blogger Conference

travel blogger conference tips advise preparing for first conference

Ethan and I are busy getting ready for our very first official travel blogger conference! We were selected among the top 100 travel bloggers to be hosted to attend Travel Bloggers Destination-Italy (TBDI) that will take place in Rimini, Italy next month in conjunction with Italy’s leading travel exhibition event TTG Incontri. Actually, I will be heading off to Italy alone as TBDI only hosts one blogger from each blog, so sadly I’ll be leaving Ethan at home to watch over the kitties while I spend a week in Italy. I have been thinking about how I can put my best foot forward as I head off to meet other bloggers, sit through presentations by travel industry experts, meet travel industry exhibitors, and explore a little of Italy on a post-conference blog tour. While we have not officially attended a travel blogger conference before, we have attended some travel and tourism shows and I Read the Rest…

Travel Blogging with a Purpose: A Need to Give Back

For those of you lucky enough to be able to travel frequently, do you ever feel a need to give back? We enjoy travel blogging and our blog is mainly focused on dispensing travel tips, advice, and stores from our travels around the world. However, we also feel a need to try to give back to the world. I just realized this week that while we have posted a page about our upcoming charity travel efforts and mentioned them in a couple of guest posts, we have not really discussed them in any of our own blog posts. So I thought we’d take the opportunity to share our upcoming summer plans to help support a charity and test our fitness by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. While we are heading to Asia (S. Korea, Cambodia, & Vietnam) for the first time in four weeks; our planning has been slow as Read the Rest…

Travel Blogging: Six Steps to Branding a Travel Blog

branding a travel blog how to brand a blog travel blogging

Today I want to talk about the issue of branding a travel blog as I think it is an important concept that can help bloggers focus their content and increase their readership. First things first, what does branding a blog mean? Many people think of branding as applying only to cattle and commercial products; however, the concept of branding can be very important to bloggers. Here are a couple of definitions of brand from dictionary.com: “a particular product or a characteristic that serves to identify a particular product” and “kind, grade, or make, as indicated by a stamp, trademark, or the like”. Essentially, I think branding, as it applies to blogs, comes down to two main things: 1) The core message, values, and goals conveyed by your blog 2) The visual “stamp”, design, and logo of your blog While you may not be trying to make money from your blog Read the Rest…

Travel Blogging: The Importance of Your Physical Blogging Space

Independent Travel Cats

As I have been travel blogging for several months now, I have begun to realize how important my blogging space is to me—by which I literally mean my physical blogging space. This past week, I have been trying to write posts from a hospital as Ethan has been recovering from surgery this past week (he was born with a congenital heart problem), While I thought that having hours and hours to sit around each day would allow me to still blog, I haven’t written a single post this past week. In addition to the obvious stress of the situation, the hospital is not a place I can work with bustling healthcare professionals, loud beeping sounds, blinking lights, and constant interruptions. I recently wrote a guest post on Kate’s Diary of an Essex Girl blog about physical blogging space after a recent move, and this last week trying to work in a Read the Rest…

Travel Blogging: Taking Time to Participate in the Blogging Community, Share More of Ourselves, and Express Gratitude

We have now officially been travel blogging on our tiny piece of the Web for about 2 months. Our first post on Independent Travel Cats was posted at the very end of June and we are still working on improving our blog design, learning how to navigate social media outlets, and figuring out how to manage to get out new blog posts on a regular basis. One thing that we have definitely learned that you can’t be a blogger in isolation and one of the joys of blogging is being able to meet other people, exchange ideas, and give back to the blogging community. We wanted to take this opportunity to talk about some of the ways we have done this so far. We’d also love to hear from others some of the other ways we might continue to get involved! • First and foremost is connecting with other blogs Read the Rest…
