Aberdeen is known as the Granite City, and it doesn’t look like anywhere else in Scotland. Almost the entire city center is built from the local silver-grey granite, and when the sun comes out (which happens more often than Aberdeen’s reputation suggests), the mica in the stone makes whole streets sparkle. We lived in Scotland for several years and have visited Aberdeen a number of times, to see the city itself, to use it as a base for exploring the northeast of Scotland, and as the start and end point for driving the North East 250 route.
